President, VP meet first time since July 8 poll

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Vice President Jusuf Kalla met for the first time since the July 8 presidential election when they both attended a coordinative cabinet meeting here Monday.

The cabinet meeting was held to discuss synergy among various state law enforcing agencies in corruption eradication efforts.

Jusuf Kalla arrived at the presidential office at 10 a.m. and directly went into the cabinet meeting room on the second floor.


United Indonesia Cabinet ministers and other state officials present at the meeting spontaneously directed their attention to Jusuf Kalla as the vice president stepped into the meeting room.

Kalla who ran in the July 8 presidential election but was defeated by Yudhoyono, then shook hands with the ministers before taking his seat next to President Yudhoyono.
The president then whispered something into Kalla`s ear before opening the meeting which was attended by Supreme Court chairman Harifin Tumpa, Constitutional Court chairman Mahfud MD, Supreme Audit Board chairman Anwar Nasution, Corruption Eradication Commission (KPU) vice chairmen Chandra Hamzah, Bibit Samad Riyanto, Haryono Umar, and M Yasin, Development Finance Comptrolling Agency chairman Didi Widayadi, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affaris Widodo AS, Law and Human Rights Minister Andi Mattalatta, Minister/State Secretary Hatta Radjasa, Attorney General Hendarman Supandji, and National Police Chief Gen Bambang Hendarso Danuri.

President Yudhoyono at the meeting said frictions among legal institutions in carrying out their respective task and responsibility should not hamper the corruption eradication efforts in the country.

He admitted that frictions and competition had often occurred among state institutions when they carried out their task and function. But the president added the frictions should not hamper each institution`s role in corruption eradication efforts.
