Jakarta governor hopes business returning to normal Tuesday

Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo expressed hope here on Monday that business in the Mega Kuningan area will return to its normal activity on Tuesday, four days after Friday`s hotel bombings.

"Today, Sunday, the third day after the bombings at the JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels, the situation in the capital city is as usual as on other days," he said at a press conference at the Media Center of Bellagio Mall in Kuningan, South Jakarta.

The two luxury hotels bombed on Friday are located in the Kuningan business area in South Jakarta.

Fauzi said the Jakarta Great Sale program from July 17 to August 18 could become the indicator of security conditions in the city.

"The number of visitors at shopping malls has indeed dropped but the situation is improving," he said.

He said the situation in the hospitals where the wounded had been treated had also been quieter as many of them had been discharged.

Regarding the situation at the Soekarno-Hatta airport the governor said the number of arriving passengers had not changed compared to the days before.

He said the total number of arriving passengers at the airport reached 2,379 while the number of departing passengers was recorded at 2,604 until 12.00 hours on Monday.

The day before the number of arriving passengers reached 1,836 while the departing passengers 1,724 the day before.

"There has not been a drastic decline, much less `exodus`," he said.

Tourism is one of Indonesia`s developing income earners.
