Govt prepares special standards for flights over Papua

The Directorate General of Air Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation is currently preparing a special standard for flights over Papua.

Air Transportation Director General Herry Bakti said in Jakarta Monday a special standard is very important for flights over Papua as so many aircraft accidents had taken place in the province.

"We are discussing special protection standards for flights over Papua because flights are very special there, airport facilities are limited, and the pilots are relying more on their visibility," Herry said.

He added that the standards will include tighter security standards covering aircraft airworthiness, pilot skills, airport facilities, and others.

"The government fully supported the development of air transportation in Papua to free the region from isolation," Herry said.
