Second phase of 10,000-mw power project in 78 locations

State-owned power utility firm PLN said the second phase of its 10,000-MW power generating project will be implemented in 78 locations with a combined capacity of 9,706 MW.

PLN Director Fahmi Mochtar said here on Tuesday the company had completed the details of the 10,000 MW power generating project and would hand them over to the government

"We have completed preparations of the construction of the second phase the 10,000-MW project and we will soon hand them to the government," the PLN director said.

Like the development of the first phase of the 10,000 MW project, most of the projects in the second phase are located in Java with a combined capacity of 5,685 MW while those which would be built outside Java would have a combined capacity of 4,021 MW.

But unlike the first phase where all projects used coal-fired generators (PLTU), in the second phase there are projects with generators using thermal, gas and hydro-power.

Most of the projects in the second phase are still dominated by PLTUs with a combined capacity 4,196 MW, thermal plants with 2,896 MW, gas 1,440 MW and hydro-power 1,174 MW.

The second phase projects consisted of 1,174 MW of hydro-power plants (1,000 MW in Java and 174 MW outside Java), 1,440 MW gas-powered plants, or PLTGU (1,200 MW located in Java and 240 MW outside Java), 2,896 MW PLTPs ( 1,485 MW in Java and 1,411 MW outside Java) and 4,196 MW PLTUs (2,000 MW in Java and 2,196 outside Java).(*)
