The General Election Commission (KPU) on Friday officially confirmed the Jusuf Kalla-Wiranto, Megawati-Prabowo and Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono-Boediono pairs as contestants in the July 8 presidential race.
"At 11.34 a.m. the KPU confirmed the pairs by acclamation," KPU chairman Abdul Hafiz Anshari said in the company of Commission members Andi Nurpati, Endang Sulastri, and Syamsulbahri.
He said the confirmation was done as stipulated in KPU Decree No.295/KPTS/KPU/2009.
"As of the issuance of the KPU decree, all stipulations on presidential and vice presidential candidates will be in force," Abdul Hafiz Anshari said.
Before confirming the pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates for the July election, the KPU held a plenary meeting to discuss the verification result of administrative requirements presented by the nomination working group committee chaired by Syamsulbahri.
The KPU plenary meeting which started at 10.30 to discuss the matter was closed to the media. The minutes of the meeting had been signed by KPU chairman and all KPU members.
The campaigns for July 8 presidential election will start on June 2 and end on July 4, 2009.
